New Projects on the go. 08/09/2011

New Projects outside of school work.
        1) Design poster for OAI's newest show.
        2) Act as Stage Manager to said show
        3) Keep agenda organized. (This is very important!)

I'm showing a screen shot of the poster, that was taken while my photoshop program quit running. Unfortunately the program did not come back to life and all my work was lost. So I will start again. What do you think of it?

        Thoughts On Summer 04/08/2011

I've been spending more time then expected at home this year. Why? Hmm I don't know. Perhaps the rain? Perhaps the allure of home is calling to the universe and calling me to my abode. Either way, what a way to spend the summer! Drinking real iced tea, going to summer matinees, making super things! Well it's great and that's that. The down side to this homely situation is my income is shorter than usual.

New plan! Check out mah Etsy!(http://www.etsy.com/shop/alysondavies?ref=pr_shop_more)
And I will love you long time.

Wow. What a weekend. I can say I am completely wasted from the weekend. No alcohol consumed, but I can assure you Alyson will spend a part of the day in bed to recuperate. Art Walk was amazing to be involved with. The sights, the sounds, The ART! Wow incredible. I sold five originals, two prints, two paintbrush roll up cases and five vintage cards. Lovely Lovely. Of course all of my work is still for sale, and can be shipped worldwide. Enquire for prices and shipping.

        New Paintings 17/06/2011

I've just half finished a portrait of my sister. It's done in oil. Unfortunately I have a few things to fix up. But i'll have to wait until it dries. It's difficult to paint someone who is so familiar to you. As Amy is a crap model I found myself working from memory most of the process. My strokes were biased.

Fiddle Heads which really should be called Cello Heads. 12/06/2011

Last night I prepared my first fiddle heads.  Now the word on the street is that fiddle heads are poison for raw consumption. So we cook 'em up. Sorry raw foodies...

        Fiddle Heads By Alyson

        Two handful of fiddle heads
        Vegan Margrine
        EVOO
        H2O
        Pepper

Boil the heads for 15min. Drain. Fry with EVOO and Margarine, add pepper to taste.
I'd imagine that it would be easy to spice these to make them exciting but I felt they were wonderful as is.

        They were really really nummy!

        Fringe 02/06/2011

Wow, am I ever excited for the Fringe. My quest for poster inspiration turned into a fringe info session. I found this about the future of the fringe.

        Future of the Fringe
Some critics worry that the proliferation of fringe companies and the non-juried acceptance into the festivals has created events that aim at the lowest common denominator in audiences - simply a competition for laughs. However, because fringe theatre is artist-generated, unlike other cultural events that depend heavily upon government funding and critical approval, the future of fringe festivals will depend upon the activities and energy of small independent theatre companies and artists and on their ability to continue to excite and attract audiences.

Perhaps the greatest challenge faced by fringe festivals is their own popularity. Created as an alternative to the mainstream and a reaction against elitism in the arts, growing size and financial success draw increasingly professional and international artists to fringe festivals. With that comes increased expectations regarding facilities, production values and income. Large fringe festivals often pursue growth and expansion at the expense of the very grassroots principles upon which they were created.
It's true isn't it. Comedys seem to be the cat's meow. But do these funny funny shows have a place in the grassroots entity that is "fringe"?
